The Nosewerkx Brand

Our Story & Brand

At Nosewerkx LLC, our passion for K9 detection drives everything we do. What started as a hands-on journey into the world of scent work — watching dogs do what they were born to do — grew into a mission to build tools worthy of their extraordinary abilities.

Founded in Virginia by David Laudner, Nosewerkx LLC was born from years of firsthand experience as a Federal Police K9 handler and later trainer.

Through working alongside detection dogs in a variety of disciplines, I learned that consistent, purposeful training is essential to every successful K9 team. Recognizing the need for durable, practical, and effective training equipment, I began designing and handcrafting professional-grade detection tools built by a trainer who understands the demands of the field.

Our Mission

To equip every nose to find its source.

Whether you're a law enforcement handler, military trainer, or sport detection enthusiast, our products are designed to develop, challenge, and enhance a dog's natural detection abilities.

Post Detection Training and Attention to Detail: The Complete Guide to Cleaning, Decontamination, Storage, and Best Practices for Training Aids.   By Nosewerkx LLC   Introduction A detection dog's nose is capable of identifying odor at concentrations far below what humans can perceive. This extraordinary sensitivity is what makes detection dogs so effective—but it also means that even microscopic amounts of unintended odor transfer can influence a training exercise. Cross-contamination is one of the most common and preventable challenges in canine detection training. Whether training for explosives, firearms, narcotics, currency, electronics, conservation, or other target odors, improper handling and cleaning can lead to false alerts, inconsistent training results, and reduced confidence in a dog's odor recognition. Maintaining odor integrity requires more than simply cleaning equipment. It involves disciplined handling procedures, proper storage, routine decontamination, and ...

Canine Nose work vs. Nosewerkx?

Canine nose work is a form of odor recognition known as det ection and scent-tracking discipline that harnesses a dog's natural olfactory abilities to locate specific odors or substances. It's rooted in the same skills that working dogs use in a spectrum of professional settings ( i.e. narcotics, explosives, arson, electronic storage, cancer, bed bugs, wildlife recovery, conservation, oil industry, and search-and-rescue teams ).  However it has grown in significant popularity for training enrichment in what is known as K9 sport detection ( see info within our NW Blog covering this topic ).   At its core, nose work taps into what dogs do instinctively: smell. A dog's sense of smell is exponentially more powerful than a human's, with up to 300 million olfactory receptors compared to our 6 million. Nose work training channels this superpower into focused, rewarding work that engages both body and mind. Nose work type training In a typical nose work session, a handler hi...

How are detection dogs trained?

When it comes to training K9s for detection work, it's crucial to use effective methods that ensure accuracy and reliability in their performance. Let's explore some of the top training techniques used by professionals in the field. What is Scent Detection Training? Scent detection training is a method that involves teaching K9s to recognize and alert their handlers to specific scents. This type of training is commonly used for detecting drugs, explosives, and even search and rescue missions. How Does Positive Reinforcement Work in Training? Positive reinforcement is a key component of K9 detection training. By rewarding the K9 with treats, toys, or praise when they correctly identify a scent, they learn to associate that scent with a positive outcome. This method helps reinforce the desired behavior and encourages the K9 to continue performing well. Why is Consistency Important in Training? Consistency is crucial in K9 detection training to ensure that the K9 understands...
